WAEH Meet the Chair
With The Orenburg branch of S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Federal State Institution (Russia).
Dr. Alexander Chuprov from Orenburg branch “Eye Microsurgery” (Russia) met with Anders Boman (WAEH Chair), Wim Oosterom (Advisor to the WAEH board) and Maaike van Zuilen (Global lead of the WAEH) on 9 February 2021 to present and tell us all about the Institute’s history, scientific research and use of advanced technologies to help their patients.

Dr. Chuprov proudly told us about Svyatoslav Nikolaevich Fyodorov, the Russian eye surgeon, who developed radial keratotomy in 1974. It was the first surgical procedure to correct myopia (nearsightedness). Fyodorov is widely considered to be the pioneer of refractive surgery.
Meeting with the Orenburg Branch “Eye Microsurgery”
Since their opening on December 25, 1989, The Orenburg branch of S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Federal State Institution has opened branches in 11 cities in the USSR. The Orenburg Branches each have two surgical departments for adults, a surgical department for children, a department of non-surgical treatment, a laser surgery and diagnostics department and five operating rooms.
Using Advanced Technologies
The Orenburg Branch uses advanced technologies to accurately diagnose and treat their patients. They have been active for 31 years and have had 1.350.000 office visits and completed 420.000 surgeries since.
