The Human Resources Community of practice takes place once every three months. This group meets to discuss topics such as Handholding – From Volunteer to Career, Employment model(s) in ophthalmology, Task differentiation and Burn out prevention. The group will share best practices and learn from each other. This group is led by Jos Hubers from The Rotterdam Eye Hospital, Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and Angela Smith from the Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, United Kingdom. The group meets via Zoom every three months. Please note that your eyehospital must be a member of the WAEH to join these meetings.

With Prof. Zhou, Prof. Hong, and the two directors of the Internet Hospital of the EYE & ENT Hospital of Fudan University (FDEENT) as our presenters!

During the 18th Annual WAEH Meeting in 2024 in China, we had the unique opportunity to visit the EYE & ENT Hospital of Fudan University in Shanghai and experience their Internet Hospital firsthand. Now, we invite you to explore this innovative healthcare model further in a one-hour session, where the professors and the directors of FDEENT will share their knowledge about how to develop an internet hospital, how to organize it within your own eyehospital, challenges, and future potential.

JEC Eye Hospitals and Clinics

Join the 5th JEC International Meeting (JECIM) 2025!

JEC Eye Hospitals & Clinics would like to invite all members of the World Association of Eye Hospitals (WAEH) to join the 5th JEC International Meeting (JECIM) 2025. As the chairman of the 5th JECIM, we are very pleased to announce that this event will be held on April 25 -26, 2025, at the Fairmont Jakarta, Indonesia. 

The program will feature the myopia epidemic currently happening all over the world, particularly in Asia, through a myopia control care session. Additionally, we will present a hospital management segment, with keynote speakers from the hospital industries in the region. World-renowned experts and respected speakers from four continents and over ten countries will gather at the 5th JECIM 2025 to share their knowledge and experiences. From hospital management symposia, scientific sessions, didactic courses and hands-on workshops, to plenary sessions, we have prepared a comprehensive program for all delegates. The 5th JECIM 2025 also provides delegates with an excellent opportunity to establish networks and foster collaborations with peers and colleagues. 

We are pleased to invite WAEH members to participate as speakers in the Hospital Management Symposia sessions at the 5th JEC International Meeting (JECIM) 2025, which will be held on Friday, April 25th, 2025, at the Fairmont Jakarta, Indonesia. The sessions and suggested topics are as follows:

A ‘Patient First’ New Year

2024 is winding down–and what a year it has been! It is easy to lose our heads in the here-and-now, missing some of the big wins this year. As the year draws to a close, it’s the perfect time to reflect on what we’ve achieved and set our sights on the year ahead.

LVPEI’s promise has always been about marrying excellence with equity. 2024 began with a beacon of this promise, the Bhosle Gopal Rao Patil Eye centre in Mudhole, Telangana receiving the NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers) certificate under the “Small Healthcare Organization (SHCO) Accreditation” category. In fact, 2024 was the year our network crossed the notional mark of 300—we are now at 308 centres across southern and eastern India.

Instrument Maintenance for Technicians

This four week course equips participants with the knowledge and skills required to maintain and troubleshoot common Ophthalmic instruments.

This course is meant for staff of eye care organisations – including biomedical engineers, ophthalmic technicians, electricians or anyone interested in learning about maintaining ophthalmic equipment. The course is also open to technicians from organisations engaged in sales and service of ophthalmic instruments.

As this course will be offered in English, participants are required to be conversant in English.

Course Content

  1. Organizational skills
  2. General maintenance skills
  3. Skills relating to maintenance of electrical and electronic instruments
  4. Skills relating to maintenance of optical instruments
  5. Skills relating to maintenance of mechanical parts of equipment
  6. Relevant Knowledge

Scientists Design ‘Retinal Selfie’

Scientists at the Wilmer Eye Institute, in collaboration with scientists and engineers at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), are designing a retinal imaging platform in the form of eyeglasses that can be used at home without special training.
